La
Violetta
The place
La Violetta is an Italian restaurant disguised inside an office complex — you would drive past it a hundred times without stopping. Inside, the space is a cozy Alpine chalet, the pastas are made properly, and the wine list is serious. It requires reservations and it's worth whatever planning that takes.
La Violetta is the hardest restaurant in Sarasota to find on the first try and the most worth finding on any try. It's inside an office complex in South Sarasota — not hidden with ironic intention but genuinely hidden because that's where the space was available and the owner didn't see the need to move. The exterior gives no indication of what's inside.
Inside: a cozy Alpine chalet aesthetic, warm lighting, closely spaced tables, and the kind of service that knows every regular's name. The pastas are made in-house and handled correctly — tagliatelle with ragù, hand-rolled gnocchi, cacio e pepe that doesn't break. The wine list is genuinely deep in Italian regions that most Florida restaurants don't stock. This is a special occasion spot that earns the occasion.
What to expect
Reservations required — call ahead, the room is small. Finding it the first time requires following the address and ignoring the office complex signage. The pasta is the move; the wine list rewards asking for a recommendation. Dress smart-casual. Closed Mondays and Sundays.
